IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) treatment follows a similar process across countries, but there can be some variations from one country to another. Turkey is known for its advanced medical infrastructure and experience in IVF treatment.
Medicana International Istanbul Hospital is linked to Medicana Hospitals Group which is one of the largest and pioneer of private Hospital Chains in Turkey. It is approved by the Ministry of Health and also being accredited by ISO and JCI (Joint Commission International) regularly.

Here are the general steps that patients might encounter in Medicana International Istanbul Hospital during their IVF treatment:
Doctor Selection and Application: Patients interested in undergoing IVF treatment in Turkey should first choose a specialized IVF doctor and/or clinic. Research through the internet, doctor recommendations, and patient reviews can help in this selection process. Once a doctor is chosen, an application form is filled and an appointment is scheduled.
Medical Evaluation: Patients applying for IVF treatment in Medicana Hospital undergo a medical evaluation by the chosen doctor. This evaluation includes factors such as detailed medical history, hormone levels, and Gynaecological examination to evaluate the condition of the uterus and ovaries and individual ovarian reserve as well. This step helps determine the appropriate treatment approach and also the type and dosage of the stimulating agents to be used.
Treatment Planning: Based on the medical evaluation, a personalized treatment plan is developed and discussed with the couple. The plan is tailored to the patient’s age, individual ovarian reserve, general health condition, and personal medical history. It involves the details about hormonal medications, monitoring egg development, egg retrieval, and embryo transfer.
Turkey offers IVF treatment with the expertise of specialized doctors and experienced healthcare professionals. However, the treatment process can vary based on individual and medical factors. Therefore, it’s important to discuss details with your doctor before starting the treatment and to have clear and reasonable expectations.

Hormonal Stimulation: As part of the IVF treatment, patients should use hormonal medications to stimulate egg development. These medications stimulate the ovaries to produce more eggs since the number of eggs will directly affect the success rate.
Egg Retrieval: Once the eggs are thought to become mature, a medical procedure is performed to retrieve the eggs. This procedure is guided by ultrasound and is done under general anaesthesia. It is called shortly OPU (Oocyte Pick Up)
Sperm Sample and Fertilization: Simultaneously with the egg retrieval, a sperm sample is collected from the male partner. Eggs are then fertilized with sperms under laboratory conditions with using either classical IVF or microinjection technique under a specialized microscope.
Embryo Development in IVF lab: Dishes containing the embryos and the special culture media are placed into an incubator where the environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, light, and gas concentration) can be tightly controlled in order to mimic the conditions inside the woman’s uterus. The embryologists at Medicana International Istanbul IVF Centre will monitor the embryos for fertilization and growth, reporting the progress back to Dr. Selman and the couple day by day. This follow up period usually takes 4 to 5 days until the embryo transfer.
Embryo Transfer: Fertilized eggs, or embryos, are transferred into the uterus. This procedure is usually painless and does not require general anaesthesia. In Medicana, we prefer to transfer two good quality (day 4/5) embryos.
Couples can return to their Home Country next day after the transfer.
Waiting Period: After the embryo transfer, patients need to wait for the result. It is generally defined as 10 days for the embryo to implant and secrete the pregnancy hormone β-hCG. Following the recommended resting and activity guidelines during this waiting period is important.
Pregnancy Test, β-hCG: At the end of the waiting period, a blood test is conducted to confirm pregnancy.
Pregnancy Monitoring: Once pregnancy is confirmed, regular doctor check-ups and ultrasound scans are conducted to monitor the health of both the mother and the baby.
